It’s been more than a year since the new season of Stranger Things premiered, but in addition to a teaser trailer and the first episode title for Stranger Things season 4, the show’s social media account is teasing info about the fourth season. And some of the show’s actors, including Gaten Matarazzo (who plays Dustin Henderson) are revealing tidbits about production in COVID times.
“It’s definitely an unorthodox form of shooting,” he told Us Weekly about filming the delayed season mid-pandemic. Everyone on set has been very diligent about wearing their PPE. Even for our off-camera work, we keep our masks and goggles on. Lots of distancing. Separation during lunch, and transport from the base to set.
Matarazzo went on to add that prior to the restart of filming in October, “The kids would always check in on each other to see how we were doing. We have to look out for each other.” Here’s everything we know about the next installment, including a favorite character’s return and which new cast members will be joining the Upside Down.
Stranger Things Season 4 Release date
There isn’t currently an official release date on the table, but we know it’s not arriving this year due to Everything That’s Going On Right Now.
In an Instagram Q&A back in March, David Harbour said that he thought new episodes were “supposed to come out early next year”.
Stranger Things season 4 cast
The series wouldn’t be the show it is without its colorful, larger-than-life cast, so expect this lot back on your screens once again: Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown), Mike (Finn Wolfhard), Lucas (Caleb McLaughlin), Dustin (Gaten Matarazzo), Will (Noah Schnapp), Max (Sadie Sink), Steve (Joe Keery), Nancy (Natalia Dyer), Jonathan (Charlie Heaton), Robin (Maya Hawke), and Joyce (Winona Ryder), among others.
Robert Englund, who played Freddy Krueger in A Nightmare on Elm Street, will join the show as recurring character Victor Creel.

Nancy Wheeler’s death ‘sealed’ in bombshell clue.
Stranger Things Season 4 episodes
It’s not confirmed but there are 24 Episodes are expected from Season 4.
What year will Stranger Things 4 be set in?
So far, each season has taken place a year apart – with season 1 set in 1983, 2 in 1984, and 3 in 1985. Unless there’s a huge time leap, it’s looking like season 4 could be set in 1986. Of course, the age of the younger cast members could affect the year that the season is set in.
Given that they’re all growing up fast, the show could flash forward a few more years. Caleb McLaughlin, who turns 19 in 2020, can only play a 15-year-old for so long!

Did Hopper die in Stranger Things 3? Is Hopper still alive?
Thankfully, it’s now been confirmed that Jim Hopper is alive and is currently in prison in Russia. Yes, he’s American!
In a statement released alongside the new teaser trailer, the Duffer brothers wrote, “We’re excited to officially confirm that production on Stranger Things 4 is now underway – and even more excited to announce the return of Hopper! Although it’s not all good news for our “American”; he is imprisoned far from home in the snowy wasteland of Kamchatka, where he will face dangers both human…and other.”
Will There Be a Stranger Things Season 5?
Depending on when they start shooting, fans must look to 2023 and beyond for a possible window for Stranger Things season 5 to premiere within. If we see Stranger Things season 4 in 2021, then it’s probably safe to assume Stranger Things season 5 will be out in 2023 sometime.
